Nanowrimo Progress Tracker

It's important to keep track of your progress throughout your month-long noveling adventure, not only to ensure that you're staying on track but to take motivation from your especially productive days. provides a few stats as you update your novel's word count, but a spreadsheet can offer much more.

I've used progress tracking spreadsheet made by others in the past, but they never suited the way I track my progress—by total word count, not words written per day—and typically had more bells and whistles than I needed. So this year, I decided to make my own, and I'm pleased to share it with you!

The spreadsheet is ready to go with a 50,000-word goal, but you can enter a different goal and it will adjust your stats accordingly. At the end of each day, enter your total word count, and the spreadsheet will do the rest! You'll be able to view the following information as the month progresses:

  • How many words you wrote each day
  • How many words you need to write each day to win
  • How many words you have left to write
  • Your projected win date
  • Your high and low records
  • How many words ahead or behind you are

Ready to track your progress!

An example of the stats calculated by your running word count.

  1. What an AMAZING idea. Thanks so much for sharing this. It's my first nanowrimo and I'm nervous about how I'll be able to do complete it! My username there is claragwrites.

    1. You're very welcome! I hope you'll find it useful. Good luck with your first Nanowrimo—I'm sure you'll rock it!

  2. Your download link doesn't work. :( It just redirects to the filedropper main page.

    1. Sorry about that, and thanks for letting me know! I guess Filedropper expires after awhile. I've uploaded it to a different website and updated the link, so it should work now.
